WHY FREEDOM.OF SPEECH
WHY FREEDOM OF SPEECH
Freedom of speech is rooted in a bio-social reality. Human beings are thinking animals with cognitive ability and with elaborate conciousness. Similarly human beings are social animals who can have human persona only in a social set up. Right to freedom of speech is inseparable from being human beings because it fulfills the requirements of ability of thinking and ability and also of having a net of social interactions .
Because of their elaborate conciousness and cognitive ability human beings can not live without thinking. Similarly human beings always need contact with fellow human beings where they can express their conciousness and cognitive and normative thinking processes. In absenece of such endowments human beings loose the meaning of being human being.
Thus right to free speech gives life of human beings a meaning of being a human being. In background of this reality any attempt to limit the right to free speech demeans human beings from the meaning of being human beings. This makes human beings divested of their dignity. And so human beings in case of loss of right to free speech are stripped of their cognitive ability of thinking and understanding and so human beings in such a case lose their status of being human at the first place.
