Democracy which facilitates seamless discussions and debates among conflicting interests is vital for those who are less assertive for their demands of welfare. In a society the group of people who suffer a lot of deficiencies may not find its voice on the dominant plateform  of decision making. In an authoritarian set up the deficient group's interests of welfare may completely be ignored. And in a major majoritarian set up the deficient group's wishes may  be left roaming in wild dreams. So there is an all probable likelihood of ignoring interests of that group which is made up of deficient people and who have weaker voices in the process of decision making.

    But in democratic decision such a deficient group will be  better confident in expressing demands for its member's well being. And there is every likelihood that other interest groups participating in the discussion may also support their such demands . And there is one more benifit. When discussions and debates are open these also serve the purpose of educating others. One group  may be unaware of the interests of others and the relevance and importance thereof, but when discussions and debates are open , there is a free flow of information from one group to others which helps in articulating and amending demands by others.
