Wars are increasing with declining democracy.  We find more wars in those regions which are characterised by sharper declines in democracy. Two or more democracies seldom engage in wars. But where democracies are haunted wars are prevalent.

Democracy provides space for dialogue, discussion, debate and these in turn provide opportunities for peaceful conflicts. Democracy is enabler of common people's voice. Common people become freer , more concerned about their well being, aware of differences and so they tend to respect others. Identities are honoured but identities become the source of adaptation and cooperation. Compassion and empathy rule the attitudes. So people are not interested in wars.

But where democracies fall, flail or fail people are overpowered by misinformation, truths are obscured,  mutual trust and respect are expelled and in place of people's will elites dominate. In any form of authoritarian system elites dominate common people. Freedom and mass aspirations are crushed . And so rule of and rule by violence reign the communities. Discussions and debates are seen as threats to the existence of elites. No one remains ready to listen to others. Consequence is use of brute force to resolve differences and conflicts. Compassion and empathy are replaced by hate and violence. Consequence is war.

So wars increase as democracy deciles. And today's world is suffering from decline in democracy and rise in wars.
